Specialist occupational health for rescue readiness

Candidate preparation

Prepare for your assessment

Use this checklist as a starting point, then follow the instructions in your appointment confirmation. Your provider’s directions take precedence.

What to bring

Documents and everyday health information.

  • Photo identification

Bring the ID specified by the provider or referral process.

  • Referral and forms

Bring any employer, site, statutory or rescue-organisation paperwork you have been given.

  • Medication information

Bring a current list or the original labelled packaging. Do not stop medication unless your treating clinician directs you.

  • Relevant reports

If requested, bring reports from your GP or specialist and results of relevant investigations.

  • Usual aids

Bring glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, inhalers or other aids you normally use.

What to wear

Plan for movement if fitness testing is confirmed.

Comfortable clothing and enclosed athletic footwear may be appropriate where an exercise or functional component is booked. Ask whether workwear or PPE is required. Changing facilities cannot be assumed.

Food, hydration and caffeine

Follow appointment-specific instructions.

Do not fast, alter caffeine, change exercise or stop medication based only on generic website advice. Preparation can differ with the test protocol and your clinical circumstances. Contact the provider if the confirmation is unclear.

On the day

A measured process, not a pass-or-fail promise.

You may complete administrative consent and health-history forms before a clinician reviews the role and assessment pathway. Clinical examination and any confirmed testing follow. You should have the opportunity to ask how the test works and what information will be reported.

If a result, medical history or medication needs clarification, the doctor may request further information. That can delay a final decision, but it should not be described as an automatic failure.
